Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday said that the credit for free and peaceful elections in Jammu and Kashmir goes to people of the state and the Election Commission adding that Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's statement crediting Pakistan for the same was wrong.

"The entire credit for free, fair and peaceful elections in Jammu and Kashmir shall go to people of the state and the Election Commission. Unfortunate the chief minister thinks that Pakistan and Hurriyat were responsible for peaceful elections," said Kharge.

Sayeed had earlier on Sunday said that the Hurriyat, Pakistan and militants had allowed a conducive atmosphere for the recently held assembly polls in the state.

The opposition parties have strongly criticized the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister's remark crediting Pakistan for peaceful elections in the state and demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's response on the issue.
