Crestfallen South Africa skipper AB de Villiers has confessed that he is gutted after his team suffered a four-wicket defeat to New Zealand in the nail-biting semifinal contest at Eden Park on Tuesday.
South Africa bowed out of cricket's pinnacle tournament as New Zealand chased down their 298-run target (D/L Method) on the second last ball of the innings to reach the World Cup final for the first time.
Addressing a news conference, De Villiers said that his goal was to win games of cricket, to take glory home, and make a difference in the nation's heart and hope, admitting that they didn't achieve that, and he was gutted as they had their chances and didn't take them, Sport24 reported.
De Villiers further said that they wanted to take that trophy back home as lot of people back home were supporting them but life moves on, observing that the sun would come up tomorrow.
