The United States State Department has said that the Cuban government has released some of the 53 political prisoners on a U.S. list.
Spokeswoman Jen Psaki added that Washington hoped to see all those on the list released soon but did not specify who all were released, reported the BBC.
Signalling a historic shift in U.S.' Cuba policy, President Barack Obama had last month asked his administration to renew diplomatic relations with the region.
The Cuban and U.S. officials are due to meet in Havana this month.
