Curfew in Udhampur, Samba and Kathua districts of J and K, Arun Jaitley detained at Jammu airport

Following the communal clashes in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtawar district on Friday that left two persons dead and several others injured, the violence has now spread to adjoining areas.

Curfew was imposed on three more districts of Udhampur, Samba and Kathua in Jammu region on Sunday Army staged flag marches as tension prevailed following outbreak of communal violence in Kishtwar.

According to reports, Kishtwar remained curfew bound for the third consecutive day on Sunday. Authorities also brought Jammu city and Rajouri town under curfew, in a bid to maintain law and order.

Curfew was imposed in Rajouri after incidents of stone- pelting and protests triggered communal tension in the border town.

Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitley, who was on his way to Kishtwar, was detained at the Jammu airport on Sunday morning and has been requested to return, following the curfew in the district.

According to reports, the SP's of Udhampur, Kathua and Samba districts are monitoring the situation round-the clock. Pathankot-Jammu-Srinagar highway, which is the only surface link between Kashmir and rest of the country, is being kept open by the authorities amid deployment of additional forces.

The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has ordered a high level probe into the Kishtwar clashes which killed two people and left 20 injured.

Curfew was imposed in Kishtwar after incidents of violence in the district on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr.

According to reports, the clashes continued despite Army patrolling the streets, a senior official said, adding that more troops have been requisitioned for the trouble spots. The streets of Kishtwar saw ugly scenes with people of two communities attacking each other and indulging in widespread arson or torching of shops and vehicles.
