Cyclist Bradley Wiggins sets new UCI world hour record

Sir Bradley Wiggins, the former Tour de France champion, has registered a new record by completing a distance of 54.526km in an hour at Lee Valley VeloPark, London.

The Briton cyclist surpassed compatriot Alex Dowsett's record of 52.937km with one minute and 42 seconds to spare.

Reflecting on achieving the milestone, Wiggins said that it was torturous and he was just glad that it was done, the BBC has reported.

The multiple Olympic and world champion on track became the sixth rider to claim a Tour de France title and the hour record.

Wiggins said that he always compares himself to the greats, adding that he is just glad to be in the company of those guys.

 

Wiggins, who eventually completed 218 laps, added that it takes a lot of courage and mental strength to get up there and do that.
