Cyclone Vardah: Centre forms Inter-Ministerial team, to visit TN next week

In the wake of cyclone Vardah that caused huge damages and destruction in Tamil Nadu, the Centre on Friday formed an Inter-Ministerial team to do an on-the-spot assessment of the situation.

The team led by Praveen Vashista, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, will visit the state next week.

Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare, Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Power, Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways, Ministry of Rural Development and Ministry of Water Resources are also part of the Inter-Ministerial Team.

The storm uprooted trees, overturned cars and did extensive damage to buildings as it tore across Chennai.

 

According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) at least 10 people died.
