The family members of Mohammad Akhlaq, who was killed by a mob over reports of possessing beef at his residence, met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav here on Sunday.

Yadav had earlier announced a compensation of Rs. 20 lakh to the kin of 50-year-old Akhlaq.

The Chief Minister had also assured justice to the family of Akhlaq and said those responsible would be severely punished.

"The government and law and administration will do its work. The accused won't be able to get rid of the law. Justice will be done in this case and the culprits will be severely punished," he said.

Meanwhile, two main accused in the lynching case, Shivam and Vishal, were arrested by the police yesterday, raising the total number of accused in the case to eight.
