Dalit boy burnt to death: NHRC issues notices to Bihar Chief Secretary, DGP

Taking suo motu cognizance of a media report that a 15-year-old boy was allegedly burnt to death after his goats ate the paddy crop of an upper caste man at Mohanpur village under Karakat police station in Rohtas district, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to Bihar's Chief Secretary and Director General of Police and sought a report on this matter within four weeks.

Taking cognizance of the press report, the Commission has observed that it amounts to serious violation of human rights if the contents of the report are true.

Reportedly, one Kumkum Singh and his three associates forcibly entered the house of Juit Ram and set his son Sai Ram afire after pouring kerosene on him.

 

The boy sustained 90 percent burns and was rushed to Bikram Ganj Government Hospital for treatment but he succumbed to his injuries.
