Dame Angela Lansbury honored at Olivier Awards 2015 for first time ever

Dame Angela Lansbury won her first Olivier Award, 40 years after she last performed in London's West End.

The 89-year-old actor was named best supporting actress for her performance in 'Blithe Spirit' which saw her return to London theatre for the first time in 40 years, BBC News reported.

The veteran star, who was given a standing ovation, said her win left feeling like "a million dollars," and told the audience that theatre was her life and she was glad that she was still in it.

Mark Strong was named best actor for his performance in 'A View from the Bridge,' while Penelope Wilton won best actress for 'Taken at Midnight.'

 

Kevin Spacey was honored for his transformation of London's Old Vic theatre, where he has been artistic director over the past 10 years, while Wicked picked up the Audience Award.

The Kinks musical 'Sunny Afternoon' was the big winner at the Olivier Awards 2015 with MasterCard, taking home a quartet of the coveted statuettes.
