South African off-spinner Dane Piedt has been added to the squad for the third Test against New Zealand, beginning March 25 in Hamilton.
Piedt is expected to join the Proteas in Wellington - the venue for the second Test - sometime over the weekend, subject to visa approval, reports Sport24.
Piedt has been preferred to Tabraiz Shamsi, who was taken on South Africa's Test tour to Australia and played in the day-night Test in Adelaide, and Imran Tahir, who has not played a Test since 2015.
The off-spinner's last Test appearance was also against New Zealand in August 2016, after which he was dropped for Keshav Maharaj.
The first Test of the three-match series in Dunedin ended in a draw last week, but it did see the Black Caps field two spinners in Jeetan Patel and Mitchell Santner.
27-year-old Piedt has so far played seven Tests for South Africa in which he has taken 24 wickets.
The three-match series currently stands at 0-0 with the second Test set to begin from March 16 at the Basin Reserve in Wellington.
