Darjeeling landslides: Rijiju reviews situation

Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Thursday visited the areas affected by landslides in Darjeeling district of West Bengal and said that the government would be releasing relief funds for those affected.

"We have had a look at whatever damage that has taken place. The government is going to provide relief for the damage as well as rehabilitate. We are planning to construct highways here but we need to discuss that in details before implementing," he said.

The death toll due to landslides in Darjeeling has gone up to 38, leaving over 23 people missing and 500 misplaced.

On Wednesday, Rijiju visited the district to stock of the landslide affected areas.

 

Our priority is to make best rescue operation. We will do whatever is necessary. We have to work with the State Government," Rijiju said.
