David Bowie's son finally broke his week-long public silence following his father's death, sharing a heartfelt note about his father's demise.

Film director Duncan Jones returned to social media to re-tweet a letter from Dr. Mark Taubert, Palliative Care Consultant at Velindre NHS Trust in Cardiff City, where he thanks Bowie for his music, his art, and the way that he dealt with his cancer battle, News.com.au.

The doctor wrote: "At the beginning of that week I had a discussion with a hospital patient, facing the end of her life. We discussed your death and your music, and it got us talking about numerous weighty subjects, that are not always straightforward to discuss with someone facing their own demise".

44-year-old Bowie's son earlier posted a message on social media on January 11, in which he shared a picture of himself as a small child with the words "very sorry and sad to say it's true. I'll be offline for a while".
