David Oyelowo and Lupita Nyong'o are in talks Disney's 'Queen of Katwe,' which is to be helmed by Mira Nair.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film was penned by William Wheeler, who also wrote the screenplay for Nair's previous film, 'The Reluctant Fundamentalist.'
The story is based on an ESPN Magazine article and the 2012 book 'The Queen of Katwe: A Story of Life, Chess, and One Extraordinary Girl's Dream of Becoming a Grandmaster', both by Tim Crothers, and revolves around a young girl from the slums of Uganda who becomes a chess prodigy with the help of her coach.
While Oyelowo would play the coach, Robert Katende, the 31-year-old Oscar-winning star would portray the child's mother, Harriet Mutesi.
The film would be produced by John Carls and Lydia Dean Pilcher along with ESPN Films.
