A deaf mute Pakistani girl who was kept as a slave in a cellar for nine years by a millionaire couple from Salford has won 100,000 pounds as compensation.

The couple, Ilyas, 85 and Tallat Ashar, 69, were jailed last October after the girl was found sleeping in a cot bed in the couple's cellar by trading standards staff investigating allegations of money laundering, the BBC reports.

The victim, who is now in her 20's, was raped by Ilyas several times and made to work as a servant at the family's properties as a child.

The Ashars, originally from Pakistan, have been ordered by the Manchester Crown Court to repay 42,000 pounds of benefits that was falsely claimed by them in her name.

The couple will also have to pay an additional 321,000 pounds towards the cost of their trials.
