Mustafizur Rahman's five-wicket haul on debut helped Bangladesh to take revenge for their quarter-final loss to India at the World Cup as they defeated the visiting team by 79 in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium here.

It was Bangladesh's ninth consecutive win on home-soil and fourth ODI win against India overall.

Chasing an imposing 308 for win, the Indians made a steady start before losing wickets in a heap to get bowled out for 228 with four overs to spare.

Though Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma had a few nervy moments, the opening pair took time before playing their shots. Rohit in particular looked in fine touch as he reached his 26th ODI fifty.

Dhawan was given a couple of chances, but his luck ran out while on 30. The visitors then lost a pile of wickets. Virat Kohli, Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane and MS Dhoni fell in quick succession as India slipped from 95/0 to 128/5.

Earlier in the day, Bangladesh posted their first 300-plus score against India in ODIs. Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar got them off to a brilliant start as they played some fearless cricket to put on 102 for the first wicket. Shakib Al Hasan steadied the innings after they lost few quick wickets.

Delighted with the victory, Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza said that he was very happy with the way his team was playing.

Meanwhile, Indian skipper Dhoni said that Bangladesh did play some very good cricket but it was not the end of the road as there were two more games to go and they would try to come out harder in the coming games.
