Expressing his grief over the demise of former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Sunder Lal Patwa, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the hardworking and dedicated leader strengthened the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), adding that his good work as the state chief would always be remembered.
"Saddened on the passing away of Shri Sunder Lal Patwa. He was a hardworking & dedicated leader whose good work as MP CM will be remembered," Prime Minister Modi tweeted.
"Shri Sunder Lal Patwa strengthened the BJP & was always admired by Karyakartas. My thoughts are with his family. May his soul rest in peace," he added.
The Madhya Pradesh Government has announced a three-day state mourning after the demise of the former chief minister.
The veteran BJP leader and two-times Madhya Pradesh chief minister passed away this morning after suffering a heart attack. He was 92 years old.
Patwa, who was born on November 11, 1924, in Kukreshwar, also served as the cabinet minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government from 1999 to 2001.
He began his political career with Jana Sangh, which merged with the Janata Party in 1977.
