World number three Rafael Nadal started his 2015 campaign on a losing note as he suffered a 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 defeat against Germany's Michael Berrer in round one of the Qatar Open.
Nadal, who recovered from a wrist injury and then appendicitis, couldn't capitalize on a strong start as a resilient Berrer powered through to enter the second round.
Nadal, who was defending the title, said that those things happen after a long time without being on the road, being on rhythm, being in competition, the BBC reported.
He further said that his motivation and his hunger to keep doing things well was still the same.
Berrer, who is set to retire at the end of 2015, said it was really unbelievable, adding that it was his last season so he was just going for it.
