Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Thursday defended the decision by the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government in the city to raise water tariff by 10 percent, stating that free water to citizens can only be provided 'to an extent'.
"Water is free for those who consume up to an extent. We have to also think about saving water, isn't it?" Sisodia said to the media.
The Delhi Jal Board, which is headed by Sisodia, earlier announced an increased water tariff for consumption over 20,000 litres of water per house per month.
As per reports, the new rates will become effective from next month.
This move comes days after the AAP Government had announced free 20,000 litres of water per month to every household.
