The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday hit back at Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi for accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of waging a war on the labour class and said any delay by the grand old party on the labour law reform is 'unwarranted'.
"All political parties owe a responsibility towards ensuring that we have this reform in place. In principle, all political parties and all state governments have agreed to this reform. So, any delay is unwarranted," BJP spokesperson G.V.L. Narasimha Rao told ANI.
"The government has shown its sincerity by engaging in discussion with all the opposition parties. By agreeing to consider all the concerns that are being expressed by the Congress Party and the Communists, even after the Select Committee had finalised its recommendations," he added.
The Congress vice-president had yesterday launched a blistering attack on Prime Minister Modi and alleged that the initiatives launched by the BJP-led NDA Government were not benefitting the labour class and was instead trampling their rights.
"Prime Minister Modi thinks that the India labourer is corrupt and can work in fear. He thinks he can break and discipline them. The labourers are scared and are living in fear. Modiji, try and secure their children's future and then watch how far they take India," Rahul said while addressing the 31st plenary session of Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC).
