Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers on Monday staged a protest outside Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh's residence over the alleged rape of a woman passenger by an Uber cab driver.

"Delhi Police is under Home Ministry, what has the Home Minister done for women's security, isn't he accountable? Our demand is that someone has to be held accountable for what has happened in Delhi and the Home Ministry has to give an answer," said a protester, Aatishi.

"Women's safety is not being prioritized and that's the reason why we are present here today. The Government promised 'acche din' but when will they come. Women's safety is being made an issue in the elections but nothing is done for their safety. It's been six months since the formation of the new government but nothing has been done for the safety of women," added another protester, Arti.

The protesters, who were later detained by the Delhi police, also demanded answers from the Home Minister regarding women's safety in the city.

"We demand Home Minister to come out and tell what policies they are making for women's safety. There are many such cases which are not even reported, we want safety and respect, we want the Home Minister to answer," added another protester Vandana Kumari.

A 27-year-old woman working with a finance company in Gurgaon was allegedly raped by an Uber Cab employee on Friday night, when she hired the taxi to go back to her home in Northwest Delhi.

A case had reportedly been registered under Sections 376 (rape), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Sarai Rohilla police station and the cab driver accused of raping her was arrested last evening.
