The chancellor of the Archdiocese of Delhi, Father Matthew Koyickal, has confirmed that the St. Alphonse Church in the Vasant Kunj area of the national capital was vandalised and desecrated by unknown persons less than a week before assembly polls.

"This early morning around 3 a.m., somebody broke open the doors of the church and entered the sanctuary, where we keep the holy Eucharist, the most important element in the church. We preserve it in the tabernacle, which was broken open and the communion was spread all around on the floor and they desecrated it," Father Koyickal told ANI.

He said that the police has registered an FIR and a search for the perpetrators is on.

This is the fourth attack on a church in the national capital since December.
