A Delhi Court on Tuesday extended the NIA custody of Indian Mujahideen (IM) co-founder Yaseen Bhatkal till September 22, after the agency said that they wanted to probe his involvement in a series of blasts since 2003 and also to investigate all activities of the Indian Mujahideen.
"The week long custody of Yaseen Bhatkal and Asadullah Akhtar got over today, and the NIA has asked for a further remand of eight days to interrogate Bhatkal over his involvement in a number of blasts since 2003," Bhatkal's lawyer M S Khan told media here today
"The court looked into all aspects and granted four days of further remand to the NIA," he added.
Khan further said that the court granted two days of transit remand for Asadullah Akhtar alias 'Haddi' to the NIA's Hyderabad unit.
Bhatkal was arrested from the Indo-Nepal border on the night of August 28, who was wanted for his role in a number of terror attacks in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Pune, Delhi, Ahmedabad and Surat.
His arrest is the second major breakthrough for Indian agencies after the arrest of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) bomb expert Abdul Karim Tunda on August 16.
