Delhi: EC team seizes Rs 25 Lakh cash ahead of polls

A team of Election Commission on Friday seized Rs 25 Lakh cash at Jhatikara border in South-West Delhi, an official release said.

"Static Surveillance Team of Assembly Constituency -Matiala, SDM office, Kapashera, has seized Rs. 25 Lakh cash at Jhatikara border. The team consisting of Manoj Kumar Sahu, Executive Magistrate and others were doing surveillance duty to monitor MCC violations at the site wherein during a routine check-up the cash was found in a Ford Endeavour SUV," a press release of Election Commission.

"After interrogation of the car driver, Rs 25 Lakh cash was seized. The driver of the car could not produce any document or permission of authorities concerned to carry such big amount of cash during election time," it read.

 

According to release, the matter was immediately reported to concerned Police Station and Income Tax Department.

The cash has been handed over to the police and the matter is under investigation by the Police and Income Tax Department.
