Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) spokesperson Sambit Patra said Tuesday that the ball now lies in the courts of Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and the three-member Election Commission of India (ECI) to decide on government formation in Delhi.
"The ball lies with the Lieutenant Governor and the Election Commission of India (ECI). The Delhi unit of the BJP has clarified its intention in front of the Lieutenant Governor," Patra said.
"We are sure whatever is right constitutionally, would be the decision taken by the constitutional bodies," he added.
Jung had earlier today sent a status report to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on government formation in Delhi.
Jung on Monday also held consultations with the leaders of the BJP, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) at the Raj Niwas to explore the possibility of government formation in Delhi.
In the meeting, representatives of all the parties expressed their inability to form the government in Delhi. The Lt. Governor met all the three party leaders separately. Now, the Lt.,Governor would be sending his report to President Pranab Mukherjee.
