Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday announced a bank guarantee-free loan scheme for students desirous of pursuing higher education.

Kejriwal said his government would give the guarantee to the bank on behalf of the students.

"Delhi Government has launched a scheme, it will implemented in a month. Any student who wants to go for higher education after passing 12th standard, and if he doesn't have money for it, then banks will provide loan up to Rs. 10 lakh. There is no need to give a guarantee to the bank, Delhi Government will give a guarantee to the bank," Kejriwal said during his Independence Day address here.

"There is no need to pledge you land or house anymore to the bank to get a (student) loan. Delhi Government will take care of it, the student can pay back the loan after he completes his education and gets a job," he added.

He further said that the Delhi Government, along with the Centre, will prepare a road map to clean up the Yamuna River.

"Delhi is settled on the banks of River Yamuna. But how many of us are proud of that. The Yamuna is very dirty, all kinds of dirt and industrial waste is dumped into it.... Delhi Government with Central Government and Uma Bharti ji will make a road map and work towards cleaning the Yamuna River," he said.

Earlier, Kejriwal also unfurled the national flag at the Chhatrasal Stadium here on the occasion of the 69th Independence Day.
