The Delhi High Court on Tuesday asked the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to look into complaints regarding the functioning of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) and reply within four weeks.

The court expressed concern over a large number of vacancies in NDMA and NIDM. The matter will now come up for hearing on February 24, 2019.

Petitioner Gaurav Bansal, in his plea cited an RTI application which revealed that NDMA did not meet between 2014 and September 2018 and that post of Vice Chairman (VC) has been lying vacant.

The RTI application also revealed that NIDMA's governing body met only thrice since 2014 against a mandatory rule to meet at least four times every year. It also stated that the meetings were not chaired by NDMA chief.
