Delhi High Court on Monday directed the Director-General Prison of Tihar and Secretary of the Public Works Department to conduct a meeting and finalise the timeline for procuring and installing CCTV cameras in Tihar Jail.
A bench comprising Justices S. Muralidhar and Vinod Goel issued directions to the jail authority and concerned departments to frame a timeline for installing 5600 cameras in Tihar and other jails.
The Court also directed the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB) to bring out a notification for filling up vacancies in Tihar Jail while also directing the state counsel to fill up the posts of the Counselor in the jail.
These directives were issued by the high court while hearing a plea filed by H.S. Bindi through the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) counsel Harpreet Singh Vohra regarding violence against prisoners in Tihar Jail complex.
After the court orders, DSGMC counsel termed it a great success of the committee's efforts and said that the DSGMC has been filing cases for the welfare of prisoners.
The court has sought a report from the jail and the government to be submitted on the next date of hearing, that is, November 28.
