A Delhi Court has awarded life imprisonment to two taxi drivers for gang-raping and killing a woman in the national capital.

The Saket Court announced its judgment on Thursday.

"Their act was brutal and diabolic, creating a sense of insecurity among the women seeking to hire taxi at late hours of the day," the court said.

The accused Sikander alias Soni, 32, and Pradeep Singh, 34, will undergo imprisonment for a period not less than 20 years.

According to the Delhi Police, on April 23, 2012, the woman from West Delhi had gone to Lajpat Nagar and Defence Colony for shopping along with her son. While returning, she hired the taxi.

On finding her alone, the convicts instead of driving her to the destination took her towards the Lodhi Institutional Area where they raped her.

They then throttled the woman to death and threw her body at Nehru Place, the police alleged.
