Keeping in view the worsening air quality in National Capital Region and Delhi, the Delhi Metro Rail Network (DMRC) has introduced 21 additional numbers of trains on its network which will provide 812 additional number of trips starting from Thursday.
This increased number of trains and trips also include the movement of the metro on the newly-opened Trilokpuri-Sanjay Lake to Shiv Vihar section of line-7. 14 trains will make 730 trips every day on this line.
With all these additional trips combined, DMRC for the first time will be running 4831 trips in a day, the highest ever so far.
The national capital and its adjoining areas have been reeling under poor air quality since past few months.
Earlier on Tuesday, Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA) chairman Bhure Lal said that private vehicles may not be allowed to ply on roads if air pollution continues to worsen in the national capital.
Speaking to ANI, Lal said, "We had a meeting with Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) Anil Baijal on Monday. He has directed all officials to take strict action if required. We might have to stop the functioning of private cars if air pollution increases in the city. I hope it does not, but if need be we will have to do this.
