The Delhi Police on Wednesday confirmed that it had bust a module of the Al Qaeda in the Indian Sub Continent (AQIS) with the arrest of Mohammad Asif in Delhi and Maulana Abdur Rehman in Odisha.
"For the first time, the module of AQIS (Al Qaeda Indian Sub Continent) has been busted in our country. Its foundation was announced on September 2014. Two persons have been arrested; one is Mohammed Asif resident of Sambal, Uttar Pradesh and the other one is Maulana Abdur Rehman who has been arrested in Odisha," Special Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Arvind Deep told the media here.
"Md. Asif went for his training on June 23 in 2013 along with two others named Rehan and Sarjin. Rehan hails welcome area of New Delhi, his exact address is being ascertained. Sarjil is from Sambal," he added.
Special Commissioner of Police Deep also informed that on October 10, 2013, Md. Asif came back to India but left Sarjil and Rehan there, claiming that both of them are still involved in active terrorism.
"Md. Asif is of 41 years of age, he also got his money from hawala. Asif went for Dini training while the other two (Rehan and Sarjin) were trained for arms," he added.
The police has recovered one laptop and three mobile phones from Md. Asif which are put under examination.
