Delhi Police has provided security to Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Somnath Bharti's wife, following her apprehensions about her safety.

"She had expressed her apprehensions to us. And, we had assured her that she will be provided full security. We have provided her security, as she was feeling a bit apprehensive," said Delhi Police Commisoner B.S. Bassi.

"Yesterday, she had met our Special Commissioner, Law and Order, and given her complaint. We have heard her out and we will act accordingly. If she gives a complaint in writing, then, it will make our work easier," he added.

Bharti's wife, Lipika Mitra, had on Wednesday filed a complaint against the leader alleging "domestic violence" and "mental torture".

Mitra also approached the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) for assistance, although she is yet to lodge a First Information Report (FIR) against Bharti.

Mitra had alleged that the AAP leader has been abusing her ever since their marriage in 2010.

However, Bharti, who has been summoned to appear before the DCW on June 26, has dismissed the allegations as 'baseless'.
