Vowing full statehood for Delhi sooner than later, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday promised housing for all citizens of the city within two years if his party was brought to power in the national capital.

Addressing a rally in the Azad Market area of the city and joined by the party's chief ministerial candidate Ajay Maken, along with Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Arvinder Singh Lovely, the Gandhi scion targeted the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre, alleging that his tenure has seen inflation dramatically rise, further claiming that only a few 'businessmen friends' of the Prime Minister had profited from the results of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Rahul Gandhi also criticised the Prime Minister's outfit worn at the Republic Day parade last week, alleging that on the one hand Narendra Modi spoke of a 'Make in India' initiative, while on the other, he wore a 'foreign-made' suit worth Rs.10 lakhs.

The Congress vice president also blamed the reverse suffered by the UPA government in the Lok Sabha elections on the Land Acquisition Bill, adding that if his party were to form the government in Delhi, it would ensure that electricity and power bills would be reduced drastically and vowed to make permanent contract labour in establishments like the Delhi Transport Corporation.

The Delhi assembly polls are scheduled to be held on February 7, with the counting of votes to be take place on February 10.
