Demonetisation hits Coimbatore Xmas festivities

ANI Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu) [India]

Christmas is only three days away but the festive spirit is virtually non-existent in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, thanks to demonetisation.

Speaking to ANI here, a local resident said, "Christmas is only three days away. Every year, we purchase for Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 15,000. But unfortunately demonetisation has affected us. We can withdraw only Rs. 2,000 a week and can't go for extravagance of any sort. We have purchased minimum just to keep our kids happy."

"This is the season of hope because Jesus came to give us hope. Many people don't have hope right now because of the situation that's going on," another resident said.
