Demonstrations in Patna over killing of villagers by policemen

Demonstrations were held here today in protest against the killing of six villagers by policemen in Bagaha, Bihar.

General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist), CPI-ML, Dipankar Bhattacharya said that an enquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) should be conducted into the case.

"We demand that the firing incident that took place in Bagaha district in Bihar recently, should be investigated fairly by Central Bureau of Investigation. Senior police officials need to be questioned into the case, and those culpable for killing people should be arrested. There should be stringent action against those police officers who killed people in the firing incident," he said.

 

In an unusual incident, a police team which had gone to Katharawa village to probe into a murder case of youth yesterday was attacked by villagers who started pelting stones on the police team . The police said that the police team was forced to open fire in self defence. Three peopled were killed in the police firing.

The district administration has offered a compensation of Rs. 4,00,000 to kin of each of the deceased.
