Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain on Monday stressed the need for taking immediate steps to arrest the spread of dengue in the city and asked the people not to panic.

"Dengue is very much curable. Please do not create panic. As long as you are hydrated, dengue cannot affect a person much. You can always visit a government hospital and if required the doctor will recommend for admission," Jain said while addressing a press conference on awareness of the disease.

"Don't let the mosquitoes breed around you and bite you. In case of illness, kindly do not go for self-medication and go for a medical consultant. Also in case of headache and fever, drink lots of water and lemonade. Juices of fruits with salt and coconut water are highly recommended," Jain added.

Jain also said that instructions have been given the MCD employees to spread awareness on dengue.

"The Delhi Government gives Rs. 5,000 as salary to the MCD employees just to distribute pamphlets and spread awareness on dengue. We have also established fever clinic under the Delhi Government, where the people suffering from high fever will be treated separately from people suffering from dengue fever. If required, they will also be admitted to such clinics," Jain said.

"As far as rumours on platelets are concerned, according to the WHO (World Health Organization) even 20,000 counts are sufficient unless and until the blood pressure is very low. Don't try to be a doctor yourself but listen to the doctor's suggestion," he added.
