Former star of the National Basketball Association (NBA) Dennis Rodman is "considering going to Singapore," for the much-anticipated forthcoming summit between United States President Donald Trump and North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un, scheduled on June 12.
According to CNN, Rodman's agent, Darren Prince, said that while he is considering making the trip, "no plans or flights have been made yet."
Former NBA star, nicknamed 'The Worm', is apparently in good terms with North Korea leader Kim Jong-un.
According to a section of US media reports, Rodman, who has traveled to the reclusive nation in the past, has seemingly served as America's most important ambassador with North Korea the last few years.
Rodman, who reportedly could arrive in North Korea, a day before the June 12 sit-down, may play some sort of role in the diplomatic negotiations.
"No matter what you might think about his presence. One thing's for sure the ratings will be huge. A lot of times in situations that involve complex diplomacy countries like to identify ambassadors of goodwill and whether you agree with it or not Dennis Rodman fits the bill," New York Post quoted an anonymous source, as saying.
Though both White House and State Department have not officially commented on Rodman's presence during the summit yet, a State Department official told CNN, "We have no comment on Dennis Rodman's private travel. He's not a representative of the US government."
The United States-North Korea summit will be held in Singapore's Capella Hotel on Sentosa Island, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said on Tuesday.
