England football legend Paul Gascoigne has sent an apology message to friends and family after his arrest for allegedly assaulting ex-wife Sherly and a train guard at train station in London.

He fell off the wagon last week five months after his friends, including DJ Chris Evans, football legend Gary Lineker and cricketer Ronnie Irani, paid 100,000 pounds for rehab in the US.

Gazza, who is back with his family, said that he was devastated with the act and apologized for letting them down.

According to the Mirror, one of his friends said that Gazza was mentally ill and his family are trying to get him back on his feet.

The pal added that his family keeps talking about how he has let his family down and keeps apologising to them.

The friend added that Gazza is also feeling really guilty about his friends who helped him out, particularly Ronnie Irani and wants to apologise to them.

Gazza's family fears he is as addicted to Sheryl as alcohol.

In a 2009 Channel 4 documentary, which showed Gazza drunk on a visit to Sheryl's home, she spoke of his domestic abuse during their ill-fated marriage.

The couple, who divorced in 1998 after two years, have a son Regan.
