Deputy Foreign Minister of Italy, Mario Giro, has returned to his country with the bodies of nine Italians killed in the Holey Artisan Bakery attack in Dhaka on Friday.

A special flight carrying the minister reached the Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka this morning where he also visited the sight of the attack.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam said Giro left the country along with the bodies around 1:15 p.m, reports the Daily Star.

Twenty hostages, including nine Italians and seven Japanese, were brutally murdered during the chilling siege before the commandoes stormed the popular hangout in Dhaka's diplomatic zone yesterday morning and gunned down the attackers.

Thirteen hostages were rescued while five of the six gunmen, were killed in the 50-minute army-led joint forces operation codenamed "Operation Thunderbolt".

Two police officials were killed and dozens others injured on Friday night when law enforcers in groups attempted to close in.

Global terror outfit Islamic State claimed responsibility, but Bangladesh is yet to confirm the report.
