Lauding the development work done by its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in his state, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday said Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh is making a futile and a desperate attempt by blaming the Gujarat Government on flimsy grounds.

"Digvijay Singh and the Congress is absolutely desperate and are trying to blame the Gujarat Government on flimsy grounds because they cannot reject the fact that Gujarat has progressed two much. Now, they have come up with this figure of per head borrowings. The borrowings of the Congress states have multiplied in last ten years. The issue is after taking the loans, how much development you have done," BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said.

"In Maharashtra, 70,000 crores are incurred in irrigation and it's a big scam. So, no irrigation benefit to the farmers. But in Gujarat, if 70,000 crores are put for water, there is water everywhere; the rivers are linked and there is more than million check dams so that are providing real water security to the farmers. So, mere giving the figures of loans does not mean anything. What means is development and the loan that must be compared. And so, this is a futile attempt and a desperate attempt," he added.

Continuing his criticism of Modi, Digvijay Singh earlier said that Gujarat has one of the highest per capita debt liabilities.

"Gujarat Govt has highest per capita Debt Liability which means every citizen of Gujarat has more debt to pay than citizen of any other State," Singh tweeted.

"Modi has the guts to say " Meine Gujarat ka karz utar diya ab Desh ka karz utarna hai" Another indicator of Gujarat Model of Development !," he further tweeted.

The Congress leader further went on to say, "Would Modi Acolytes pl respond? Yes they would with more "Galis" No issue. Gujarat Model of Development must come in public domain.
