Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday said opposition parties in the capital were misleading people by making false promises of bringing substantial reduction in power tariff on their coming to the power after the assembly elections.

"They are keen to capture power by instilling the hopes which are going to be dashed in the near future. They can bring down the tariff rates by only effecting longer power cuts of 10 hours or more duration. It is for the public to opt between a dark city and an illuminated city. Our government is sensitive to the needs of the poor and middle class families, as it has given relief in power tariff to around 73 percent households in the city," said Dikshit after inaugurating work related to the laying of a sewerage system in twelve unauthorised Kondli colonies.

"The subsidy given by the government has been increased from ' 1 to ' 1.20 upto 200 unit consumption and between 201 to 400 units the tariff has been brought down from ' 5.80 to ' 5 per unit," she added.

She exhorted people to keep these forces at bay, as they have no plan of development.

The city government during last 15 years has developed Delhi by leaps and bounds, she claimed.

She highlighted development in almost all sectors, including transport, education, health, basic infrastructure, unauthorized colonies, economic condition, social sectors including Laadli, Kishori, pension, etc.

Dikshit stated that the Food Security Program would help around 75 lakh persons in Delhi.
