Dikshit presents awards to outstanding lecturers for 2012-13

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday presented awards to outstanding college lecturers for the year 2012-13.

The best performer lecturers in the 28 colleges funded by the Government of Delhi, affiliated to the University of Delhi are being considered for the award by the city government.

In all, 15 associate and assistant professors of different colleges were presented award amounting to 1 lakh each at a function organized at Delhi Secretariat.

Minister (Higher Education) Dr. A.K. Walia, Director (Higher Education) S.P. Dikshit, Vice-Chancellor (GGSIPU) Prof. D.K. Bandyopadhyay, Registrar (GGSIPU) B.P. Joshi and other senior officers were present on this occasion.

Dikshit commended the contribution of the lecturers in making higher education in Delhi more purposeful and useful for the students and society.

 

She stated that the new state universities commissioned by the city government have come a long way to attain a prominent place among well-established universities in the country.

She added: "Delhi can boast of the best higher education in comparison to the other states and UTs. The higher and technical education available in Delhi have helped in containing migration of Delhi students other far-flung states for admission in various technical and higher education courses."

She also informed that Delhi has also become the first state in the country to commission a dedicated technical university for the women. Our Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University has taken off well, she added.

Dr. Walia said the city government has been striving for overall development in the higher education sector.

"The plan allocations have been increased three fold for taking up various infrastructural projects in the universities and colleges. The city government would continue to provide necessary infrastructure and facilities for higher education sector," he said.

He added that the teachers are selected for award on the basis of their contribution in improving the results, pioneering research work, extra-curricular activities and initiative in other spheres of college life.
