An 18-year-old woman has reportedly smashed the world bog snorkeling record by just over a second when she swam two lengths of the 55-metre trench in one minute and 23.13 seconds.

Dineka Maguire, from Northern Ireland beat 130 competitors from across the globe for the August bank holiday ritual and this was her first year as a senior.

According to News.com.au, Bob Greenough, one of the competition's organisers, said that Dineka has been competing for six years but as a senior he couldn't believe her time.

Greenough further said that the competition sees serious athletes who want to prove to their friends they can do it and people in fancy dress adding that part of the fun is making a fool of oneself and as the competitors can only use dog paddle, it is all about leg power.

The competitors were mostly from Australia and New Zealand and one was from Sweden, the report added.
