A. K. Singh, National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF), Deputy Commander, said that his team was trying to demonstrate every possible medical response, use of equipments, which can be used to give aid to a victim when he/she is evicted from a disaster site.

"What to do and what not to do during the disaster, either it may be, natural or man made, so don't panic, because sense of fear would be created among the local population. And further in an earthquake if any kind of unique thing happens, and if there is any type of victim who is beneath the rubbles, then what treatment should be given as your first response, which is also what we are displaying here. CPR, profuse bleeding, splinting, all the items and equipments we are carrying that we are use during search operations," said Singh.

The Sikkim Disaster Management Authority, Land Revenue and Disaster Management Department, functioning under the state Government of Sikkim conducted awareness and sensitisation programme on disaster rescue for the officials and staffs stationed in the Secretariat building.

The volunteers from NDRF displayed the basic tools and equipments, which are used in any disaster situation demonstrating the working and usage to offer maximum relief to the victims in a grim situation.

A minute's silence was also observed on the memory of those who lost their lives during the recent floods in Uttarakhand.

The floods caused by nature's fury in the regions of Chamoli and Joshimath in Uttarakhand have left a trial of literally unending misery among the locals who were almost unprotected and untrained how to respond to the calamity.
