For its first full day of release, Disney's latest animated movie 'Moana' brought in 15.6 million dollars at the box office beating its 2013 smash hit 'Frozen'.
The movie about a defiant Polynesian princess on a heroine's quest to save her people and restore the planet's ecological balance is running ahead of the studio's 'Frozen' which drew 15.16 million dollars on 'Thanksgiving Eve' in 2013, reports the New York Times.
While 'Moana' is projected to earn more than 80 million dollars over the five-day holiday weekend, it would unlikely beat 'Frozen' record which still holds the Thanksgiving five-day opening record with 93.6 million dollars.
'Moana' is also holding a 97 percent fresh rating on the review-aggregation site 'Rotten Tomatoes', just a strand behind 'Zootopia' that received 98 percent rating.
Starring Auli'i Cravalho as Moana, Dwayne Johnson and Nicole Scherzinger, the John Musker and Ron Clements directed flick will come to theatres in India on December 2.
