Twenty-seven-year-old Serb tennis star Novak Djokovic won his second Wimbledon title on Sunday night after a hard fought five set match against seven-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer.

Djokovic beat Federer 6-7 (7-9) 6-4 7-6 (7-4) 5-7 6-4 to secure his seventh Grand Slam title, reports the BBC.

He had lost his previous three major finals, and will now reclaim the number one ranking from Rafael Nadal.

After his win, an emotional Djokovic dedicated the title to his soon-to-be wife and forthcoming baby, and thanked Federer for " allowing him to win".

He described Wimbledon as the best tournament in the world and one that he has always wanted to win.

He said that he was grateful to be playing the game he loved, and with and against high quality players. He also dedicated his win to his first coach, who died last year.

A 5,000-strong crowd was present to watch the final, and most wanted Federer to win his eighth Wimbledon title, but it was not meant to be.

The match lasted for three hours and 56 minutes.

After his win, Djokovic headed into the stands to celebrate with his team, including three-time Wimbledon champion and coach Boris Becker.

With seven Grand Slam titles to his name now, Djokovic moves alongside the likes of John McEnroe and Mats Wilander - 10 behind Federer at the top of the all-time list.

Djokovic was playing in his third Wimbledon final in four years, having lost to Andy Murray last year.
