World No.1 Novak Djokovic had played in the longest Wimbledon semi-final in history to move into his 11th Grand Slam title match by defeating Argentine Juan Martin del Potro.
In a titanic struggle played out over four hours and 43 minutes, the Serb went on to seal a final clash against Brit Andy Murray by firing 22 aces and 80 winners against the luckless 2009 US Open champion, who finally succumbed 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7/2), 6-7 (6/8), Sport24 reports.
Stating that it was one of the best matches that he had ever been a part of, Djokovic said that it was also an exciting match, although he admitted that the game was close and nothing could separate him and Del Potro.
Praising Del Potro, Djokovic further said that every time his opponent was in a tough situation he came up with incredible shots and big forehands and played a high level of tennis, which is why he is a Grand Slam champion.
However, Djokovic also said that he is proud to have got through the match, although he admitted that he was disappointed at losing the fourth set as he could not capitalize even though he was very close to winning.
Djokovic also said that despite all odds, he was ready to go through five sets, adding that he was able to stay tough and get through in the end.
Meanwhile, Del Potro said that he had played his best match on a grass court during the game, even though he is sad that he lost as he played good tennis for four and a half hours and was close to winning.

However, the Argentine said that despite the game being his best on grass, against the World No.1, it still fell short, adding that Djokovic gave hard, good hits to the ball.
Stating that Djokovic deserved to win, Del Potro further said that the Serb ran like he was playing on a clay or a hard court, adding that the ball always came back to him.
According to the report, Del Potro, dubbed Del boy by his Centre Court fans, who had defeated the Serb for the Olympic bronze medal at Wimbledon last year, had called for the doctor after slipping down 3-2 in the second set.
Due to the long, epic classic between Djokovic and Del Potro, Murray's match with Jerzy Janowicz, who was defeated 6-7 6-4 6-4 6-3, had to start late.
