DMK denies reports of party members owning wine shops in TN

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader T R Baalu on Wednesday rejected reports that members of his party own some wine shops in Tamil Nadu, adding that his party will help facilitate the ban on liquor shops.

"In the recent days there have been reports in media that members of DMK own some of the wine shops in the state. We completely deny that, don't have any share or control of any wine shop in the areas," said Baalu.

"Whenever the Tamil Nadu government decides to close down those wine shops we will facilitate it immediately by making sure shops surrender licenses," he added.

Almost all the major opposition parties in the state have joined hands for a complete ban on the sale of liquor as the government led by All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) party has remained silent on the issue.

The DMK has called for state-wide protests seeking prohibition on August 10.
