The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Tuesday permanently suspended the rebel son of party chief M. Karunanidhi, M.K. Alagiri, from the party citing 'anti-party activities' as the reason for the decision.
The rebel son of the party patriarch was earlier suspended from the party on January 24 after he had opposed the proposed handing over the reins of the party by Karunanidhi to M.K. Stalin.
Karunanidhi had said that his (Alagiri's) suspension would not affect the party and that there is no threat to the party.
He had also said that the talks about Alagiri's suspension having an effect on the poll prospects of party are just a figment of the media's imagination.
Earlier this week, Karunanidhi had warned the party members of severe action against them if they were found to be in touch with Alagiri.
