Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Dr Jitendra Singh has said that beginning this month, the DoNER Ministry will coordinate tours by different central ministers to different states and districts of the north east on a rotational basis to give a boost to various ongoing projects and works undertaken by central ministries.
He was responding to certain proposals put forward by the Government of Manipur through its Health Minister P. Tonsing, who called on him here and handed over a letter from Manipur Chief Minister O. Ibobi Singh.
Singh said, the Prime Minister has been constantly stressing on the need for rapid development of the north east region, and added that the Ministry of DoNER has taken upon the responsibility of ensuring equitable development of all the eight states and different regions in north east with due consideration of their diversities, sensitivities and security concerns.
He further stated that tourism is high on the north east agenda, and added that in the months to come, a mega north east festival called "Focus North-East" is planned to be held in Delhi to showcase potential and viability of the region to the rest of the world, as also to attract tourist operators, film makers and holiday seekers to the region.
