Drake bags his 1st American Music Awards

The 2016 American Music Awards will always be an unforgettable evening for Drake.

The Canadian rapper, who got a leading 13 nominations, won his first ever AMAs on Sunday. He took home the awards for best rap/hip-hop artists and album for his best-selling 'Views'.

"I want to thank everybody that helped me make this album, especially 40, [Noel Cadastre], all the producers on the album. And of course, I want to thank the fans. And my parents, my dad is here tonight," said the 'One Dance' artist while collecting his award from 'Degrassi' co-star Nina Dobrev, reports E! Online.

"Thank you so much. It means a lot," he added.

 

After 'Views' was released in late April, the album shot to No. 1 and remained on the Billboard 200 chart for 13 non-consecutive weeks.

'One Dance' is also the 30-year-old actor-turned-rapper's first Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 single as a lead artist, spending 10 weeks in the top spot.

The hip hop artist earned his first AMA nomination in 2010 and has received 21 overall.
